I was on my way to work in my dad's old Dodge Duster, the ultimate expression of what a guy drives when he just can't afford anything else.

It was then that I saw a spry old man standing next to a motionless Italian sports car with his cell phone in one hand and the owner's manual in the other.

He was on the phone with the dealer who suggested the car be towed in to the dealership so they could go over it from top to bottom (And charge the guy thousands is my guess)

Here comes the part where our lives get to change...

The 2006 Ferrari F430 Coupe F1, has an unmarked button on the back of the drivers key, neither me nor the stranger knew what it was for till, on a hunch, I asked him to press it and try to start the car.

When it roared to life, the smile on the guys face would have been payment enough, but he insisted on inviting me, ME to the meeting he was headed to, a collection of local millionaires chatting about opportunities, trading "war stories" and doing one favor after another for each other.

And were talking BIG favors too, multimillion dollar contracts, introductions, even a skybox at the ball park. "just tell Tim at the gate, I sent you, he will take good care of you" was all I heard.

It really is "who you know" Isn't it?

That's when the guy in the grey Ferrari said something that changed my life forever (and , if you are lucky AND smart, it just might change yours too)

"You know what Travis", He said, "not a guy in this room wouldn't be thrilled to help you get ahead, why not schedule a time with them and do an interview, ask them how they got to where they are, what they did differently than most people, get the real "gold nuggets", and publish them for people to see".

I quickly asked a few of those in attendance about doing this, and everyone except one, a large Italian fellow who owned several "sanitation removal" companies, graciously agreed. I was on my way.

But it didn't get interesting until the waiter asked me to interview him.

Huh, a waiter?

This is really the meeting that took something already good and made it 100 times better, listen up, this IS the good part...

He said "I've been serving drinks and fine cigars for 15 years, and the single biggest lesson I've learned from these folks is the following sentence" "Who do you know who can help me with this"?

Learning how to ask that question opened up so many doors, I can hardly believe it, I've been truly blessed with the 2 sided pleasure of both meeting and interviewing some of literally the best, brightest and most successful people in the world, but also getting to share their stories and insights with so many people.

Why does it matter so much what "rich people" have to say?

If you are happy with the amount of money you earn and the quality as well as quantity of free time you enjoy, I suppose it doesn't matter much at all, but, if you are like I was, the things I just mentioned matter a lot. a whole lot!

The reason so many people are having trouble these days is because the take advice from well meaning people who just don't have the same mindsets that truly successful people have. Maybe you're learning from your brother-in-law who pumps gas for a living instead of the guy who owns 27 gas stations.

What happens naturally is that you grow up and copy everyone you see around you. Your dad got rudely jolted awake by the alarm clock at 6 a.m. every day so he could scramble through rush hour traffic to a good-for-nothing dead-end job. Now, you do the same.

You get to work and you're like everyone around you. They get a lousy paycheck. You get a lousy paycheck. They trade their time for money. You trade your time for money. They're broke the day after payday. You're broke the day after payday.

Why do you want to copy broke people? You should be copying millionaires if you want to be successful.

There's an old saying, "If you hang out with cripples, you learn to limp." If you hang out with millionaires, what do you think is going to happen instead?

How does this look here in the "real world"? Take me for example. Only 1 year ago, I would try to have a conversation with one of my neighbors about a home business idea I had, actually it was a few neighbors.

"How can you think of losing the security of your job?", "All those moneymaking ideas are scams", "If it works, uh, can I have a job?" Not exactly the shining example of support and encouragement is it?

Now when I talk to my neighbors at the community get together here at my country club neighborhood. when you're standing in front of your new 2.5 million dollar home. the quality of the conversations seem to get a lot better. "Hey, I had that idea a while back! I have some notes and contacts, let me go get them", Wow, Cool! How can I help with that?" "Can I work with you on that?".

The choice is yours: You can keep hanging out with people who don't make any money, and continue to struggle from paycheck to paycheck. Or you can hang out with me and my millionaire friends to discover just how exciting and rich your life can be!
